Blending a passion for the outdoors with a thirst for exploration, Baja Outback offers participants the chance to challenge desert and beachfront terrain in style, and to learn about the surrounding area through specialized tours of southern Baja's most fascinating sites. Communication linking vehicles allows a trained guide to narrate aspects of Baja's flora, fauna, culture and history. Precision off-road Hummer driving guides will also be standing by on each tour to offer tips on navigating the desert back roads.
All H2 Hummers are outfitted with state rental plates, allowing participants to take the wheel and taste the adventure firsthand.
TOUR OPTIONS
Todos Santos is a charming artist's retreat with galleries, quaint shops, gourmet restaurants and cafes. The real adventure takes place as we start the off-road portion of the tour driving through the heart of the mountains. Small towns have been established throughout the area and we will have the chance to stop in some of these villages and visit with some of the local residents. Local crafts are available at some of the stops and small denomination currency is suggested to have on hand. Get to know the locals and perhaps see them working on their farms or creating their crafts for sale. View their homes and appreciate the tranquility of their every day life in their natural surroundings.

Hiking the Canyons Experience the back roads of Baja en route to the foot of the Sierra La Laguna mountain range. The first stop is in Miraflores where you can observe traditional wood carving and leather-making processes. At the end of the canyon drive you will be introduced to a local family, descendents of generations of Mexicans born in Santiago, who own one of the most valuable mountain ranches in Baja. Time is plentiful for hiking the canyons of the Sierra La Laguna, experiencing the unique biosphere that the Yaqui Indians cherished as their home. Try the fresh honey or learn to make handmade tortillas; all can be done before enjoying lunch next to the canyon with an unforgettable view and the local hospitality of Sr. Catarino and his family.

Hiking the Waterfalls The first stop before arriving in Santiago, an oasis in the middle of the desert, is in Miraflores where you can observe traditional wood carving and leather-making processes. Along the way you will readily view fields of mangos, corn, papaya, citrus and banana trees before reaching Santiago. Hike the mountain range of the Sierra La Laguna that was traversed by indigenous people hundreds of years ago. Here the increased levels of rainfall create a unique biosphere. Fresh water flows over huge granite boulders along with a waterfall that cascades into a natural pool where you can take a refreshing swim at the end of the hike.

Nature Expedition Rancho la Verdad ("the Truth") is a model example of a working Baja ranch. Travel off-road 45 minutes from Cabo through running water and steep terrain. Upon arrival, stroll through the vegetable garden, sample fresh fruit, meet farm animals, and see colorful roosters, quails and hens.

Nature Tours Then and Now The real adventure starts on the off-road portion as you head out of the urban area and drive through a unique village that showcases the importance of our resources in the Baja. A mountain area covered with water approximately 4 million years ago will take you straight to the bottom of the ocean. Heading back home you will stop to admire one of the most inspiring views in Los Cabos. Our tour will end at Wirikuta, an extraordinary place where thousands of cacti grow, inspired by the “Huichol” culture.

Turtle Release tours are a wildlife conservation program in which participants can adopt a baby turtle and help release it into the ocean. Participants will not only help in the preservation of the species, but they will also learn about the turtles and their habitat. Meet our certified guide in the nursery camp and choose one turtle for adoption. Prepare to release your turtles into the wild as the nests are liberated and watch first hand as they start their new life in the ocean.
