Gone Fishing? Gourmet Tips for What to do with Your Cabo Catch…

Fishing in Cabo San LucasGone fishing in Los Cabos? Home to some of the world’s best marlin, dorado (mahi-mahi) and tuna fishing, Los Cabos is a paradise for anglers of all abilities, whether it’s your first time on those abundant Cabo waters or you’re an annual competitor in one of the area’s big tournaments. While we encourage conservation of Cabo’s magnificent sport fish via catch-and-release, as do the highly experienced crews of the fishing charters we work with, you may decide to keep some of your catch—after all, Los Cabos is legendary for its wonderful, fresh seafood. Here are some delicious ideas of what to do with that catch:

Have your catch prepared for you at one of Cabo’s outstanding restaurants. One of Mexico’s hottest culinary destinations, there are no shortage of award-winning restaurants in Los Cabos. Whether your taste runs to casual Baja tacos and beer or a multi-course extravaganza spanning international cuisines, you’ll find plenty of options for tasty fare. Many Los Cabos restaurants offer a unique service—they’ll take your catch and prepare it to your taste for some truly memorable dining. Nothing beats fresh sushi or ceviche made from tuna you pulled out of the water earlier that same day. Some of our faves include:

  • Captain Tony’s – On the marina right next to Pisces Sportfishing near the Wyndham Tesoro Cabo San Lucas hotel, you can’t get seafood any fresher than this. Their motto is “our fish is so fresh that we have to slap it.” Hop off your fishing boat and take your catch over to Captain Tony’s for a reasonably priced feast.
  • Solomon’s Landing – Also at the Cabo San Lucas Marina near the Wyndham Tesoro hotel, this is a great spot for people-watching. Enjoy your fish barbecued with lemon butter, Cajun style, blackened or prepared to your special request.
  • Baja Cantina – Baja Cantina is a consistent favorite with both locals and visitors. The marina-side restaurant caters to fishermen, with early breakfast hours and special “you catch it, we cook it” menus. For a beachfront beer and fresh fish tacos, the Médano Beach location can’t be beat.

Or, have a private chef prepare a feast in your villa! Staying in a private vacation villa? After an unforgettable day on the water, come back to your villa to relax by the pool with your friends and family while a private chef prepares a gourmet dinner from your catch. You can sip margaritas as you watch the sunset and enjoy some of Cabo’s finest dining without leaving the comfort and privacy of your villa.

Want to take your catch home? Before heading home with that tuna or dorado, be sure to check with your airline for weight and baggage restrictions. Carefully packed fish should make it home in perfect condition unless your trip is extremely lengthy. Coolers are available for purchase throughout Los Cabos.
