About the Area: La Paz
La Paz is the capital of Baja California Sur, and a thriving city of more than 200,000 souls. It is a commercial center, as well as the home of a large marine research industry. The areaís wages are among the highest in Mexico. Its marine as well as terrestrial species make it a center for eco-tourism as well. The Espiritu Santos Islands group in the south Bay of La Paz are particularly prized. The city has a good-sized international airport, with steady tourist traffic. The areaís first inhabitants, Neolithic hunter-gatherers, date back more than 10,000 years.

Trip of a lifetime!   Julie R | Fort Collins, Colorado
Wow! Rancho de Costa is unlike anywhere we have ever visited. First-class, intimate, fun, beautiful, and comfortable - there aren't enough words to describe our experience. Johnny, Manny, and the staff treated us like royalty, catering to our every desire and whim. Appetizers, meals, and drinks were first-rate - everything was prepared to our taste. Gary, the owner, took a special interest in guiding our vacation - giving us a tour of the property and taking us out in his private fishing boat. He made us feel like family. The resort is extremely clean, safe, comfortable, accommodating, and beautiful. We cannot wait to return to this hidden paradise! Show Less

There simply is not a better location to unwind, relax and recharge the soul! This is a little secret that I am almost scared to let out. Having been all over the world and staying at a couple of unique hideaway's this it my best kept secret. Enjoying this property is a privilege and should be something to cross off of the bucket list. When the "A" lists clientele figure this place out the secret is out! Can not wait for the next stay! Show Less

the most perfect destination getaway ever!!   Ken W | Juneau, Alaska
we shared rancho and longosta with our family and closest friends with our daughter, for her wedding. we chose to have everything provided to totally take advantage of the surroundings and enjoyment of everyone attending, and the staff there did not disappoint!!..Manny and his kitchen staff always had something ready to eat, and were more than willing to prepare special requests if asked. The room crews did an exceptional job of cleaning rooms every day, there isn't a better place to enjoy beaches, snorkeling, fishing, sunrises, or just relaxing! Show Less
Extreme Privacy in Absolute Paradise   Mike W | Juneau, Alaska
Read More We joined our family at Rancho De Costa in BCS, Mexico for my sisters wedding. What an amazingly beautiful property with unlimited opportunity to make for a perfect vacation. The rooms themselves are greatly cared for with wonderful decor and very comfortable beds. The tile and rock work in the showers and bathrooms is impressive and elegant. The pool area has plenty of comfortable seating and is perfect for lounging in the sun, or retreating under a large palapa for some cool shade. The pool itself is good sized and perfect temperature for a mid-day cool off. There is also a great hot tub for evening relaxation. A simple wald down a flight of stairs puts you on the most wonderful beach I have ever visited. Beautiful white sand sits in front of calm turquoise waters. There is a rocky point that buts right up against beach which offers phenomenal snorkeling. The waters are teaming with bright tropical fish and vibrant corals making for some truly enjoyable time in the water. We also took the opportunity to do a couple of days of fishing. What an incredible experience. We caught Marlin, Tuna, Dorado, Roosterfish, and Cabrilla. The captains are clearly experienced and practice ethical release of marlin and fish not of size. The tasty fish that we did catch were harvested and then exquisitely prepared by the wonderful staff at Rancho de Costa. Everybody from the maintenance crew to the chefs, and the maids were friendly and delightful to be around. Every detail was covered, and if we had a special request they were more than happy to be accommodating. I could go on and on about how great of a time we had, but this review is already running long. Highly recommended. I will be back. Show Less
Rancho De Costa stands alone as the most beautiful location I've ever been priviledged to visit   Scott S | Colorado Springs, Colorado
The panoramic views of the Bay of Dreams at sunrise are spectacular. In the evenings the moon would rise out of the bay like none I've seen. I was lucky to be there at a full moon. The amenities are endless and they are all yours . This is a first class destination for a private , quiet vacation. The staff was courteous and attentive to all of our needs. We were a party of five couples that enjoyed the fishing for many species not far off the shore and straight to the kitchen; bonfires on the beach; private movies in the full size theater; very nice suites located within earshot of the rolling surf that could be heard all night! I'll never forget this place. I hope I'm lucky enough to return. Show Less
Fantastic secluded beach estate, great for large groups   TravelPronto | San Jose, CA
Read More We recently returned from a stay at Rancho de Costa over the Christmas/New Year holiday break. It was a family reunion, so it was a large group of 20 people with several different family units. It was hard to find a place that could accommodate a large group like us with different needs, but this place was perfect. We had a large age range, from 5 to 85 years old. Everyone had a great time. Rachno is actually two different houses/areas: Villa Marlin is the main area of several connected units with a total of 6 bedrooms. It also comes with a private pool/hottub and a great outdoor seating area to hang out and eat all your meals. About 100 yards away is Villa Langosta, a 4 bedroom house with private outdoor hottub. So, it's a total of 10 bedrooms with both properties. Most of the rooms have king or queen beds, but two of the rooms at Villa Langosta have several twin and full beds, perfect for the kids. Both houses have full kitchens. Both properties are beach front and have lots of activity options. Literally just steps from a great calm beach, perfect for little ones. There is also a fantastic reef right there where you can snorkel. Very calm and safe. The place has paddle boards and kayaks to rent, as well as snorkeling gear if you don't have your own. The staff also arrange fishing (either small panga boats or larger sport fishing boats) that pick you up right on the beach. Nearby La Ventana is an area known for wind surfing and kite boarding and you can arrange rentals and lessons. There are horse stables nearby and our kids went horseback riding on the beach. There is a large gym and tennis court on the property, and the staff set up beach volleyball for us. We also borrowed a soccer ball and played a little match on the beach with the kids. This place is secluded, which means it's also a little isolated. It's on Bahia de los Muertos (trying to re-brand as Bahia de los Suenos, for obvious reasons). It's about a 45 minute drive from La Paz and 2+ hours from San Jose del Cabo airport. Fly into La Paz if you can, but Cabo airport was cheaper and had more flights. Rancho de Costa can arrange van transportation ($200 each way) or you can rent a car (it's a safe drive during the day; at night there are hazards like possible cows on the highway and drunk drivers). We thought the isolation was good as the beach was practically empty everyday. There is a small hotel next door and a few other private homes on the beach, but that's about it. We were a large group and had everything we needed there, so the isolation wasn't really an issue for us. We also used the chef services where they provide 3 meals a day plus all snacks and beverages. You just pay for the food and drink (plus 20% service charge) as well as for the chef services (for 20 people it was $400 per day). Well worth it and the food was great. They can make anything you want and ask you for your preferences, but we just told them to make great local Mexican food (and they delivered!). If you don't go with chef services, either make sure you ask them to buy your food/drink or stock up in Cabo or La Paz before you arrive. There is a small town of Los Planes about 10-15 minutes away that has a small grocery store, but it's no supermarket. The staff at the estate is great. Very friendly and helpful. There is daily maid service and it seems like there is somewhere there around the clock to help with whatever you need. Having said that, this is not 5 star luxury service where they bring you drinks by the pool or on the beach and cater to all your personal needs. But, it's friendly Mexican help and they try to go out of their way to assist. The place is owned by an American (Gary Wagner) who has been down in Baja for a long time. We never met him but he was apparently very accessible when we were planning the trip. Bottom line: this was a great family vacation if you're looking for quiet relaxing place and you don't mind the isolation. It's not for folks looking for a crazy Cabo trip with lots of people, restaurants and bars nearby. Highly recommended and we hope to return. Show Less
restfull and secluded !   Patrick Reed | WV
The privacy, views, climate, property allows for the utmost enjoyable stay. The sunrise and sunset out by the private pool that sits right on the beach allows for the utimate vacation. Manager Response: Thank you for the great feedback! This is a fantastic large oceanfront villa (sleeps up to 28 in 10 bedrooms) with plenty of space to lounge and enjoy all that Cabo has to offer! With the beach just steps away, you have a front row seat to whales swimming by (and more)! So sit back, relax and enjoy!

Read More The villa complex is beautiful--better than any words or pictures can say or show. The villa rooms are spacious, beautifully furnished, and still homey enough to actually enjoy kicking your feet up. Fernando (Our Cook) makes the best food you'll ever eat. Let him go shopping in La Paz and surprise you with incredible dishes. The extra cost of him shopping and cooking is worth every cent, because you'll want to enjoy everything the place offers. Beach, hiking, kyaking, snorkling, gym, tennis, basketball, golf (OUTSTANDING 18-hole course, but a bit pricey at $125), and just relaxing. This is a fairly remote getaway, but there is plenty of staff that I didn't know were included (except for tips). So your beds are made and the grounds are perfectly maintained. There are two nice restaurants--one upscale, and one casual. Los Planos is a five minute drive away to get more beer and Tequila. I've traveled the world a lot, and this places ranks very near the top, and is definitely at the top of my beach list. I will be back. John R Jones (My real name) Show Less
